Habiko launches its first community conversation on plans for new affordable, sustainable homes in Chester City Centre

We’re bringing forward plans for its first site at Charterhall Drive in Chester, building on its vision to develop affordable, low-carbon and low-energy homes in order to unlock a better future for the environment and for the community.

Launched at the end of 2024, Habiko is our joint venture housing innovation partnership established between Muse, Homes England and Pension Insurance Corporation (PIC), with a focus on affordable housing delivery. The homes will be built where there is need and demand for this type of housing, in accessible locations, close to employment opportunities whilst being designed to help residents save money on their energy bills.

The joint venture has today launched its first community conversation on plans for up to 350 new affordable 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom homes at Charterhall Drive in Chester city centre.

The proposals to revitalise a sustainable brownfield site, adjacent to the station with easy walking and cycle access to the canal network and city centre. A new low-car urban residential quarter will be created, set around a green landscaped garden at the heart of the scheme for residents.

The contemporary apartments will also pick up on the site’s industrial past as Chester’s former leadworks.

Habiko is now holding a three-week community conversation on the plans, including a live public webinar on Tuesday 11th November from 18:30.

Following the close of the community conversation on Thursday 20^th November, the project team will review all feedback ahead of preparing a full planning application for submission to Cheshire West and Chester Council in due course.
